Alan Greenwood

Alan Greenwood

I started playing the drums rather late at the age of 19 years of age. I did 2 years National Service. After being discharged I played in various groups and went Pro in 1963 (Brian Diamond and the Cutters), touring with them we made a view records and backed some of the stars of the day (John Leyton, Mike Sarne and Craig Douglas).
At this time I started singing and went into the West End of London playing in many of the night clubs and hotels (Savoy, Ritz, Hilton and the Dorchester) which give me a secure income.
After this I worked on the cruise ships backing stars such as Tommy Cooper, Dave Allen, Eartha Kitt
When I retired I went back to my first love, jazz and big bands where the years of studying all the great drummers including my old mentors Kenny Clarke, Ronnie Verrell and Ronnie Stevenson I hope paid off.
